Applying for a visa
Veterinarians can fast-track their residency under New Zealand Immigration's Green List. As a veterinarian, you can apply for an Accredited Employer Work Visa for up to three years. From September 2022, you can then apply for New Zealand residency without having to wait the usual two years.
When you arrive
No matter how much planning you've done, it can be difficult to know where to start once you step off that plane. You may be feeling jet lagged, excited or nervous – or a combination of all three!
Start by focusing on these four areas:
- Temporary accommodation: Find places to stay for your first few weeks.
- Getting connected: Set up your mobile phone and internet.
- Transport: Figure out how you'll get around. You will most likely need a car.
- Shopping: Find out where to get and how to pay for food, clothing, and household items.
